In STEP 8, the main component I am referring to is the primary subject and the most intricate element in your work. In this case, it is the ‘Scraggly Old Tree’. We will continue utilizing the FILBERT BRUSH. On your color palette, prepare two mixtures—one light and one dark. I used vandyke brown and black mixed with white for the light mixture, and for the dark variety, I used the same colors, excluding white. To load your FILBERT BRUSH properly, glide it several times on both sides through the dark color. Then, turn the brush to one side only and slide it through the light mixture. Now, the FILBERT BRUSH will have dark on one side and light on the other.
Decide where you want the tree to be positioned in your landscape and gently move your brush, slightly wiggling it, to create the desired effect of the ‘Scraggly Old Tree’. Use a liner brush to produce branches on both sides of the tree. At the base of the tree, make sure to incorporate a few old roots that extend into the ground. Additionally, utilize a brighter color tone to make certain parts of the tree pop out from the rest. This will add more character and dimensions to your tree.
